Sherwin Miller Jewish Museum
The Sherwin Miller Museum of Jewish Art in Tulsa, Oklahoma was founded in 1966 and is the only American Jewish museum in the region and preserves the largest collection of Judaica in the Southwest United States. It serves as the headquarters of the Jewish Historical Society of Oklahoma and Oklahoma Jewish Archives. The museum’s permanent collection consists of more than 10,000 pieces, including items of archaeological and ritual significance, ethnographic costumes, synagogue textiles, historical documents, and fine art.
Our first project with the museum was to create an interactive way for guests to explore the vast Fred Strauss Collection, an impressive collection of letters, postcards and stamps collected and curated since the 1940s that chronicle the history and traditions of the Jewish people. We are also working to create a take home version of this collection in the form of an iPad app that will allow anyone to download and explore in great detail the collection, and how it connects with various aspects of jewish culture and history.
We’re very excited to be working with the museum, and look forward to helping them develop new and interesting ways to increase the explorability and interactivity of their many other collections in the future.
