All we do at Moomat is based on the idea of semantics, the study of meaning. We believe that if we treat words as more than just a series of letters, but as a representation of something larger, we can give them more power and greater context. Applying this idea, we can turn any dataset into an intricate web of interconnected content, making more data more easily accessible and discoverable.

Before working on Moomat, I spent my career programming computer graphics in some capacity. After graduating from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Electrical Engineering, I joined the Direct3D Driver Group at ATI Research near Boston. We wrote DX8 and DX9 display drivers. After 2 years at ATI, I decided that I wanted to make video games. I left Boston and moved to Los Angeles to join Pandemic Studios (EA) where I was Lead Graphics Programmer. I was at Pandemic for ~7.5 years before starting Moomat. The first 6 months of Moomat development was at the Starbucks at 3rd and Wilshire in Santa Monica. After building out the initial technology, I partnered with Shaun and moved back to Tulsa. Now, here we are, excited for the rest.

I have been involved in entertainment for more than 25 years. Starting in the recording studio business back in my home country of England, then moving into the live production and touring business, working with new bands to massive international artists. After the 90′s I shifted my interests into the area of convergence of entertainment and technology, having the privilege to work with some of the genuine pioneers of this revolution. Moomat appeared, in the form of my brother in law, Daniel Mooney, describing a unique discovery process for all forms of media. Having spent so much time in this space, I knew that the vision was unique and started the company Moomat LLC in April 2011. Moomat is the best example of convergence of entertainment and technology that I have ever seen.

I first experienced Moomat while sitting in a bar, over drinks, while the ever eccentric Jason Lockhart excitedly walked me through the app. It didn’t take me long to realize how sizeable the implications of such a connected framework could be for education, for media consumption, for publishers, museums, festivals, the list was endless- and I have to admit, I wanted to be a part of it! The rest was history. I met the team, and was so happy to find a goofy and eccentric group of individuals behind the scenes. We play hard here, but that’s because Moomat is fun to us. I find myself looking forward to work every day, and helping market, promote, and take part in design discussions for Moomat has been the pleasure of my marketing career. I know we’re on to something big here.

I’m a curious person. By that I don’t mean I’m odd (I’ll let you be the judge of that), I mean I’m curious about the world and what I can learn from it. When I discover new music, or a new film, or a new city, I want to learn as much as I can about it. When I find a new band, I want to know each member’s name. I want to know where each is from, what they did before this band, and what bands and other art they like. That’s why I’m so lucky to have found a place at Moomat. Here, I can dissect the things I like and gain a greater understanding of them.

Born and raised in Tulsa, I’m a multi-instrumentalist, producer, and painter (canvases not houses). I grew up on 50′s – 70′s tunes but have morphed into a little house cat. Now I focus most of my energy on connecting everything in the known universe.
